An App Designed for Pakistani Language Learners
This project is a mobile app designed for learning Urdu, the official language of Pakistan. The app will focus on Urdu language courses to attract language learners both domestically and internationally. Once a substantial user base and revenue are achieved, the app plans to expand its offerings to include courses in other languages such as German and English.
The App integrates Urdu language learning into a "travel" experience for instruction. For each language, we craft a unique "journey" where users encounter distinctive people, events, and objects from various countries. Through interaction and communication with these elements, users gradually master the language. "Learning a language through digital virtual travel" is the core concept of our App. This approach not only enhances the fun, practicality, and ease of language learning but also directly aligns with the common motivation for learning a foreign language—travel.
The concept of learning a language through a digital virtual journey inspired me to design the course progress map as an actual map. As users advance along the travel map, they encounter diverse people, events, objects, and national landscapes, further enhancing their language skills. Understanding local customs and improving language proficiency go hand in hand, complementing each other.
Reflecting the "travel" concept, the lesson progress bar is designed as a backpacker advancing along a path. Additionally, some question options are presented in the form of speech bubbles, simulating conversations with locals.
Memorabilia collected during the journey are stored on this page, with some souvenirs requiring users to achieve certain milestones in their language courses to unlock.
This page documents the user's language learning progress and data records. Users can review their past language learning journey.
In line with the vision of project founder Chris, he desired the app's mascot to embody the image of an eagle, reflecting his dual identity as an engineer and a language learner. Consequently, the app is named "Lanner," and the icon design is as illustrated below.
