A Copy of a Song Dynasty Gongbi-Style Bird-and-Flower Painting
This is my study of the Song Dynasty painting Peach Blossom and Mountain Bird (桃花山鸟图). The painting depicts a peaceful scene in early spring, with a peace bird resting amidst the green peach blossoms. The artist employed the double-outline technique and used vibrant, well-defined lines that are both delicate and strong, capturing a balance between softness and sturdiness. The focus of the work is not on the variation of the lines but on expressing texture. The petals are densely and realistically rendered, while the bird’s feathers are fine and soft, with its tail feathers tinged in translucent red. The color palette is elegant, with the flowers lightly colored in a soft wash, evoking a sense of natural beauty without any artificial exaggeration.
