New Media Art and Its Prototype Development
The new media art installation "Luminous Tide" combines nature, art, and technology, reinterpreting the beauty and mystery of the natural world in a unique way. Through the interplay of light and the sound of ocean waves, we can feel the rhythm of the sea and the mysteries of the universe, experiencing boundless energy and continuous vitality. We have also built an interactive prototype for this installation using Arduino.
When the sea breeze gently caresses and the waves rise and fall, the new media art installation is activated by the rhythm of the tides. With each wave's rhythmic rise and crash, the installation begins to dance with mesmerizing light and shadow. It's like flowing silk, mirroring the dance of the ocean. Like the heartbeat of the sea, whispering its secrets. Like the stars that have fallen into the water, illuminating the ocean's stillness.
In the prototype, we use a water level detection sensor to monitor the timing of the waves' emergence. When the waves rise, the installation's lights are activated, and the light and shadow change in rhythm with the ebb and flow of the tides.The light columns are simulated using thick optical fibers, with an LED dot matrix hidden directly beneath the optical fiber array. Each LED light corresponds to a single optical fiber light column.
