A Modular Calendar Design Inspired by China’s Liangzhu Culture
"Liangzhu Fantasia: Divine Human-Beast Face Puzzle Calendar" is a cultural product for the Central Museum’s “How Civilization Began: Encountering Liangzhu” exhibit. Inspired by Liangzhu civilization's divine human-beast motifs, we turned these abstract totems into engaging, everyday characters on the calendar, bridging them into daily life.
The image of a deity riding a mythical beast, crafted from paper components, appears to leap out of the frame, inspired by the technique of characters jumping out of frames in AR games. This "pseudo-3D" and "pseudo-AR" design enhances the expressiveness and impact of the divine figure and beast. Users are invited to participate in the assembly, requiring hands-on involvement to complete the form, thereby increasing interactivity and enjoyment.
The overall color scheme of the calendar is inspired by the core colors found in Liangzhu cultural jade artifacts, such as chicken bone white, jade seepage yellow, and cong yellow. The ethereal and unrestrained palette evokes a sense of loftiness and freedom, closely tied to the representative artifacts of Liangzhu culture.
